In the Roman and Greek Times wherever there was a
sport competition, there was betting. The famous “bread and games” could
therefore also be expressed as “bread and bets”. In some cases, competitions
were even created for the sole purpose of giving wealthy gamblers an
opportunity to bet.

interested by it. Of course there is still a majority of men playing poker,
gambling or betting on sports, however women are more and more active in the

Office Betting
By Caroline on Tuesday 4 May 2010, 16:29 - Office Bet
Wether it is online or offline everyone bets. People bet at home with their family on political challenges or Tv shows.
At the pub with their friends or colleagues on the outcome of the game they are watching or at the office on the private or public matters. The stakes can range from money, to bere, or a dare. But it is still betting, trying to see the outcome of something before the other ones.
And where it is you think private bets most commonly take place ? Well I bet you have guessed : it is at the place we spend most of our time : the office...
Office betting is the most common place to organize bets. At the office you can bet on the color of your boss' tie before he comes in or on the result of the champion leagues. You can bet with the colleague from the accounting departement you hardly ever speak too or with your best pals from work.
However betting at the office can be a bit tricky. First there is the tediousness of getting the excel file ready for the bet and of getting everyone to give the money. It takes time and the dedication of at least one person in the office that really want the bet to take place. Then there is the political aspect of it : should you bet with your boss, what if he wins or worse what if he looses ?
But isn't the best form of betting ? Don't you love the respect you get from your co-workers when you come back on the monday morning after a tricky game and you pronosticated the right would win? That definetly offsets the couple drawbacks...

How do you make sure your friends honnor their bets ?
By Caroline on Thursday 22 April 2010, 11:01 - Office Bet
Betting with your friends is fun and and entertaining.
However sometimes it can become a bit fustrating for some of us as the
others do not always take the bet seriously. In order to avoid
any kind of misunderstanding you should make your position
clear from the start:
Either you are betting money or you are betting just for fun.
But it as to be clear for your friends that whatever you all decide you will
have to keep the same mind at the end of the bet.
Sadly, we all know that people might be interrested in betting money or a bottle of wine and then change their mind at the end of the bet. Have you not heard before : Did you really think we had a real money bet ? I thought we were friends and that is was just a friendly bet. Sorry I don't have cash with me, I'll pay you back next time...
Actually it is already pretty bad when you bet with your friends, but it gets even worse when you start betting at the office. If you boss decides to forget about you winning a bet against him, it is a bit tricky to remind him over and over again isn't it ?
There is no real good way to do it, except if you put all the money of the bet before the bet in a safe place and divide it after amoung the winners. However that is not always easy as you might start betting in the heat of the moment and your friends and colleagues might not have the cash with them.
Friendbet endeavors to provide a solution to that kind of problem by setting up bets with your friends in just 3 clicks and securing the money for the winners.

Office Bet for the World Cup
By Caroline on Sunday 18 April 2010, 16:34 - Office Bet
You are planning to organize office bets for the World-Cup
?
Typical sweepstakes are fun: everyone sports a team, but
the problem is that you can’t show your co-workers how good you are at picking
the right team... And there are many people like you around: Bob in the
accounting department, Peter the sales guy and even Stephen: they all think
they know better than you which team will make it to the semi-finals in June!
It’s high time everyone put money where his mouth is… So you
decided to organize an office bet! Great idea, but what would the game be? The
rules? Let’s see what you should determine.
What’s the rule? Pool betting is the best way to
make an office bet: everyone puts the same amount in the pot (let’s say £10)
and makes his/her predictions. The winner(s) takes it all. Simple as
sweepstakes, but much more fun! What’s important is to keep it simple and easy
to play in order to get the entire company in the pool bet: office bets are a
true social event in the company. This will also make the pot bigger for the
winner(s)… But how do you determine the winner? You could give
points for each right prediction, and sum the points in the end. You could then
split the pot among the first 3, or give it all to the winner, that’s your
choice! Just be careful when writing the rules: how do you get points? What if
some people have the same number of points in the end?
What will you bet on? You need to explain how
people will get points. Picking the 1st and 2nd of each group? Picking the best
scorer of the group stage? That’s a good ideas! What’s fun is to follow in real
time, who has the lead in predictions among your co-workers after every game.
Try to organize a bet for the group stage and a second bet for the knockout
stage when everyone knows the remaining teams. You can have everyone bet on
each game of predict his/her final stage.
How do you organize the office bet? You’ll have to prepare clear rules, send e-mails to announce the bet, make some marketing at lunch time, gather the money (before June 11!) keep track of everyone’s predictions and have a follow-up interface to know who’s the leading predictor! And don’t forget to make your own predictions..!

Bragster - Victory is sweet
By Caroline on Thursday 15 April 2010, 11:49 - Betting Websites
The american bragster.com is something else...
Concept
On this website you can bet that no one in the community is up to something. If someone in the community actually manages to be up to your challenge or make it better than the others, they can brag about it forever !
Lets say you don't think anyone can eat 25 eggs in a row. You can put up a challenge on bragster and see if anyone takes you on that. You don't need to give anything to the winner, victory is ofter enough for bragsters around the world as the website baseline points out : victory is sweet.
The website is more a community website made for the entertainement of bragters lovers and watchers than a betting website. You can of course connect via facebook and there is a lot of video watching.
One of my personal favorite is a video posted by carlisle one of the almighty King of the bragster (meaning he is one of the best bragsters around the world) where he puts on an alian mask and burns it up with it on his face. Carlisle manages to keep its composure although you can see the flames do burn him a little. You can check it out.
If you are up to that kind of challenge, you should check the website out ! Or if you just enjoy watching people I bet you will enjoy bragster.com.
Product
The website is very straight forward and very easy to use. It is organized as a community website with a lot of video you can view. The graphism is not really sophisticated but it works.
What is quite good is the
