History of Betting

In the Roman and Greek Times wherever there was a sport competition, there was betting. The famous “bread and games” could therefore also be expressed as “bread and bets”. In some cases, competitions were even created for the sole purpose of giving wealthy gamblers an opportunity to bet.

The English Team for the World Cup

ABIO CAPELLO has finally announced on Tuesday June 1 the 23 players’ names he will take to this summer's World Cup in South Africa.

Seven unlucky stars, who had made the England boss' 30-man provisional squad, were told they were not included today.

Arsenal's Theo Walcott omission from the coach Fabio Capello roster was quite surprised. The 21-year-old Walcott, who has won 11 caps, would have been the youngest member of the party.

He was definitely the most high-profile omission with Darren Bent, Adam Johnson, Leighton Baines, Scott Parker, Tom Huddlestone and Michael Dawson that are also misssing out.

England football fans were surprised by this decision and were wondering why Fabio Capello has not included some best players in the list of England World Cup squad.

Gareth Barry is on the plane despite a troublesome ankle injury, which is likely to rule him out of England's opener against USA on June 12.

England squad left today for South Africa, where FIFA World Cup 2010 is schedule to play from June 11 to July 11. England is in Group C with United States, Algeria and Slovenia. The English team will kick off World Cup 2010 against United States in Rustenburg on June 12.

So here is the list of England's 23-man World Cup squad:

Keepers: Joe Hart, David James, Robert Green.

Defenders: Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Stephen Warnock.

Midfielders: Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Strikers: Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney.

Office Betting

Wether it is online or offline everyone bets. People bet at home with their family on political challenges or Tv shows.

At the pub with their friends or colleagues on the outcome of the game they are watching or at the office on the private or public matters. The stakes can range from money, to bere, or a dare. But it is still betting, trying to see the outcome of something before the other ones.

And where it is you think private bets most commonly take place ? Well I bet you have guessed : it is at the place we spend most of our time : the office...

Office betting is the most common place to organize bets. At the office you can bet on the color of your boss' tie before he comes in or on the result of the champion leagues. You can bet with the colleague from the accounting departement you hardly ever speak too or with your best pals from work.

However betting at the office can be a bit tricky. First there is the tediousness of getting the excel file ready for the bet and of getting everyone to give the money. It takes time and the dedication of at least one person in the office that really want the bet to take place. Then there is the political aspect of it : should you bet with your boss, what if he wins or worse what if he looses ?

But isn't the best form of betting ? Don't you love the respect you get from your co-workers when you come back on the monday morning after a tricky game and you pronosticated the right would win? That definetly offsets the couple drawbacks...

How much did YOU bet on the elections ?

The elections in the UK are a crazy time, when it comes to betting. Everyone think they know who will win or at least wants to convince themself they know who will. So there is a lot of betting going on...

However this year's set a new record with 40M$ that were bet on the election, according to the Washington Post. Election Betting usually start up to 1 month before the first round of the election and get more intense as the time of the election approaches. This amount is approxymatly twice the amount bet by other voters in other countries.

However, as you might have guessed elections' bets are not as popular as sport's bet. In some events such as the Grand National this month, 600M$ were bid ! But Football has nothing to be ashamed of and a first league championship has on average 15M$ bids ...

How do you make sure your friends honnor their bets ?

Betting with your friends is fun and and entertaining.

However sometimes it can become a bit fustrating for some of us as the others do not always take the bet seriously. In order to avoid any kind of misunderstanding you should make your position clear from the start:
Either you are betting money or you are betting just for fun. But it as to be clear for your friends that whatever you all decide you will have to keep the same mind at the end of the bet.

Sadly, we all know that people might be interrested in betting money or a bottle of wine and then change their mind at the end of the bet. Have you not heard before : Did you really think we had a real money bet ? I thought we were friends and that is was just a friendly bet. Sorry I don't have cash with me, I'll pay you back next time...

Actually it is already pretty bad when you bet with your friends, but it gets even worse when you start betting at the office. If you boss decides to forget about you winning a bet against him, it is a bit tricky to remind him over and over again isn't it ?

There is no real good way to do it, except if you put all the money of the bet before the bet in a safe place and divide it after amoung the winners. However that is not always easy as you might start betting in the heat of the moment and your friends and colleagues might not have the cash with them.

Friendbet endeavors to provide a solution to that kind of problem by setting up bets with your friends in just 3 clicks and securing the money for the winners.
